About Zumbro

Zumbro Lutheran is a congregation of more than 3,000 baptized members engaged in a ministry of reconciliation, bringing the gospel of Christ to the Rochester community as well as to the world. A downtown location provides the unique opportunity to minister annually to hundreds of visitors. Zumbro is a member congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, the fourth largest protestant denomination in the United States, numbering over 5,300,000 members gathered in 11,133 congregations.

The present church building, dedicated in 1970, accommodates the needs of the congregation as well as a variety of service-oriented community groups. The building is fully accessible to the handicapped and its three floors and brand new add-ons provide a great deal of space for worship, education, fellowship, and recreation. Zumbro has an excellent library with current periodicals, Biblical and theological resources and inspirational reading for children and adults. The church has an attractive lounge, a spacious fireside room and adjoining patio area, rehearsal rooms for vocal and bell choirs, a full sized gymnasium, and attractive spaces for education. These are some of the resources Zumbro provides for the Rochester community.

Zumbro has been part of Rochester since 1865. Over the years, the congregation has been shaped by a high commitment to an ecumenical outreach to sisters and brothers in Christ. The congregation also has a long history of support for and participation in the world mission task. Being located in the center of Rochester, a healing community, Zumbro endeavors to "heal the broken" through a vital Ministry of Reconciliation. Each Tuesday in the Chapel, a Liturgy with the Eucharist and a Service of Healing is offered. Visitors are always welcome to participate in worship, education, and fellowship opportunities. New residents in Rochester are invited to unite with Zumbro Lutheran Congregation in order that the Ministry of Reconciliation which God has entrusted to his people may be effectively carried out in this community and throughout the world.
