Action Projects for 2008
Individuals and circles are invited to select the project(s) of their choice. Participation in action projects is on a voluntary basis.
Please place items collected in the Action Box outside the church lounge. Contact Secretaries for Action, Dorothy Bacon or Jean Streyle with any questions. Your continued support is urgently needed and greatly appreciated.
Items collected all year
- Postage stamps
- Bethphage Mission, a housing and care provider for people with mental and physical disabilities, collects postage stamps. Please cut around canceled stamps, leaving a 1/4-inch border.
- Bethel School and Institution for people with disabilities in Bielefeld, Germany also welcomes canceled stamps.
- Layette items - Lutheran World Relief (see items listed under May)
- Eye glasses - Lion's Club
- Beverage tabs - Local Ronald McDonald House
- Campbell soup labels (bar code only) - Rainbow School
Postage stamps, eye glasses, beverage tabs, and Campbell soup labels may be left in drawers at the Ushers' Stand.
ALL other items may be placed in the "Action Box" outside the church lounge.
Quilts, wall hangings or table runners for the Good Earth Village Quilt Auction held in late Summer are greatly appreciated.

MISSION SEWING (Lutheran World Relief, Good Earth Village, Rochester Central Lutheran School)
Financial donations to purchase needed supplies, sheets, drapes with or without linings, old blankets--cotton or synthetic (no wool), 12-inch squares/larger pieces of fabric (no knits), thread (large spools)
CRISIS NURSERY (local)
Continual needs: clean, gently used or new children's clothing;
diapers (especially larger sizes and Pull-ups); wipes; clean, excellent condition crib, exersaucer and high chair (must meet safety standards); clean, gently used or new bedding (sheets, blankets, etc.); clean, gently used or new toys, books, puzzles and games (NO stuffed animals, please); new cleaning supplies (dish soap, laundry soap, Lysol, etc); paper products, toilet paper, paper towels;

- Padded or spiral notebooks of ruled paper approximately 8 x 10-1/2" totaling 150-200 sheets (please include three if using 70-count notebooks); do not include loose-leaf paper
- One blunt scissors (safety scissors with imbedded steel blades)
- One 30-centimeter ruler (or ruler with centimeters on one side and inches on the other)
- One pencil sharpener
- Six new, unsharpened #2 pencils with erasers (secure together with a rubber band)
- One eraser approximately 2 ½" long
- 12 sheets of construction paper in assorted colors (if necessary, fold in half to fit into the school kit bag)
- One box of 16 or 24 crayons
- One sturdy cloth bag approximately 12" x 14" with cloth handles or drawstring closure

HEALTH KITS (Lutheran World Relief)
- One hand towel, dark color recommended
- One wash cloth, dark color recommended
- One bath-size bar (4-5 oz) of soap, in its original wrapping
- One adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging
- One comb, wide tooth preferred, remove packaging
- One metal nail file or clipper (file attached), remove packaging (do not substitute cardboard emery boards for the file)
- Six Band-Aids (or similar brand), preferably ½ to 3/4", secured with rubber band
All items should be new and in good condition. Wrap smaller items in washcloth; wrap washcloth and remaining items in the towel and tie securely with ribbons or yarn. Do not enclose anything in plastic bags
AIDS/ HOSPICE KITS (Global Health Ministries)
New or gently used:
- One regular size bath towel and one wash cloth
New:
- One bath size bar of hand soap (wrapped)- any kind
- One toothbrush
- One tube tooth paste, medium or large (or two small sample sizes) - any kind
- One "pick" comb
- One nail clipper
- Six Band-aids
- One jar or tube of petroleum jelly
- One pair heavy duty kitchen type household gloves, size medium
- One small devotional booklet, such as Portals of Prayer, Daily Texts or Christ In Our Home - does not have to be current issue
NOTE: Vitamins and pain relievers are no longer able to be sent. Please send money for them directly to Global Health Ministries.
Please wrap items in towel and pack in a 2-gallon Ziploc bag with a note saying, "Aids/Hospice Kit" visible from outside of bag. Place in ACTION BOX .
MIDWIFE KITS (Global Health Ministries)
- One 36" square muslin or sheeting
- One regular size bath towel
- One wash cloth (thin)
- Two cord ties: 8" narrow lengths of selvage or 1/4" twill tape or heavy white knit/crochet cotton
- One bath size bar Ivory soap
- One razor blade (single edge, safety-wrapped)
- One newborn stocking cap (keep hand-knit ones very small)
- One small cotton-blend or flannel shirt (to waist only as the babies do not wear diapers)
- One receiving blanket
- One pair plastic or latex gloves (clean, not sterile); NO kitchen gloves
Place the cord ties and razor blade in a small Ziploc bag. Wrap everything inside the bath towel and insert into a 2-gallon Ziploc bag. Squeeze air out of the bag before sealing.
Please place completed midwife kits in the Action Box.
