The Social Ministry Team promotes and encourages the congregation to reach out with the love of Jesus to those in need in the areas of Hunger, Housing and Health.

 

Opportunities to Volunteer:

Samaritan Bethany Escorts

This is an ongoing opportunity for members interested in escorting Samaritan Bethany Nursing Home’s residents to an on-site church service. Zumbro Lutheran is currently offering our support for escort volunteers for select Sundays in the months of January and June.

Red Cross Shelter

Zumbro Lutheran is teaming up with our local Southeast Minnesota Chapter of the American Red Cross to be listed as a Red Cross shelter. We are looking to create a Zumbro Lutheran Red Cross Shelter Team in the event of a disaster. To become a member of the shelter team, Red Cross training is required. More information to come on how to become a part of this important endeavor.

Food for Channel One

Zumbro Lutheran has non-perishable food collection barrels located in the Narthex for donated food items. Your help is especially needed in providing food for Channel One during the summer months when children are home during the day and not receiving school lunches.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN)

IHN is a program that supports homeless families and families in transition. The program is hosted by area faith communities, taking turns hosting these families for week-long stretches providing shelter and meals. Aside from the IHN executive director and licensed social worker, IHN is run by volunteers. Many of the volunteers are members of the 16 host and 33 buddy churches. Zumbro Lutheran is one of the host sites in 2011. Families and individuals interested in volunteering, can contact the church for further direction. A training session for new volunteers is required.
