BOY SCOUT TROOP 82 POLICIES
printable version
- ADULT LEADERSHIP FOR ALL EVENTS
All overnight adult leadership for camps, outings, and lock-ins shall
be currently registered members of the Boy Scouts of America.
The only exception to this is for Webelos and their parents camping
with the troop and for Boy Scout/Parent camps. Registered merit badge
counselors may attend events but may not remain overnight at event,
camp or lock-in.
- This policy tells everyone that youth protection is
a high priority for our program.
- It follows the policy of Zumbro Lutheran church for adults
working with youth.
- All families will know that those adults leading the boys
have been approved and their references
checked by ZLC and the BSA and that the leaders have been
trained in all areas including youth protection (sexual
harassment).
At the same time, parents are always
welcome to observe any troop meeting or activity. Visits must
be coordinated through the Scoutmaster.
- SCOUTS' ACCOUNTS
- Scout accounts are provided by Troop 82 through
troop fund raisers as a way to help a member Scout
earn his own way.
- The money in the Scout's account is to be used for Scout
expenses such as camp fees. Account funds can also
be used for related items, such as uniforms or camping
equipment.
- For reimbursement, present qualifying receipts to the
Troop Committee Treasurer.
- Once a Scout is no longer registered with Troop 82*, funds
remaining in his account shall revert to the Troop 82 treasury.
If desired, excess funds can be designated to the Troop 82
Scholarship Fund set up to help qualifying families pay for camp.
*Registration ends yearly on February 28/29.
- DISCIPLINE
Discipline problems at troop meetings and camps will be dealt with as
outlined in the "BEHAVIOR GUIDELINES", adopted by the Troop 82 Patrol
Leaders Council and Troop Committee. All parents and
Scouts must sign a copy which is kept with the troop.
- CAMPS
- Scouts are not allowed to use personal
tents
at troop camps. In addition, cots cannot be used inside troop
tents because of possible damage to the tent floor.
- At every camp, Scouts must have rain gear and
appropriate clothes for the weather. If lack of
adequate weather protection is discovered at camp, parents will have to
either bring adequate protection to the camp location or come get
their Scout and take him home.
- Camp Food payment: Each Scout is required to make
this payment before
leaving for camp. This fee is set by the Troop Committee.
Additional activity fees may be added for specific camps.
Food buyers are asked to try to hold food expenses to the total
collected for each patrol. See "PATROL FOOD BUYER INSTRUCTIONS"
for more information.
- If you signed up for camp but cannot attend for any reason,
you are expected to pay for food if you do not inform the Patrol
Leader and food buyer by the Wednesday evening before camp. This is
because individual Scout families are buying food for each patrol
- After each camp, each Scout is expected to bring home troop
and patrol equipment for cleaning.
This includes camp stoves, patrol kitchen box, pots and pans, patrol food box, etc.
It is the responsibility of the Patrol Leader to fairly distribute items
to be cleaned. (If he does not assign equipment, it is his
responsibility to clean it himself.) Parents, for the health
of our Scouts, please open up and inspect everything.
It must be brought back clean, dry and ready for the next
camp. Scouts should report any damage to the Troop
Quartermaster. Please return equipment the Monday after camp, no later!
PATROL FOOD BUYER INSTRUCTIONS
- On the Monday before camp, work with the Patrol Leader to fill out the
Camp Roster to determine how many Scouts,
Junior Leaders and adult leaders
you are buying food for. Call patrol members who are absent to
get a complete camp count. A Scout's name on this list is a
commitment to pay.
- The Scoutmaster or Junior Leader who is acting as
"Campmaster" for the camp must approve the patrol
Menu Plan and Camp Roster before
the patrol can buy food. The Campmaster is responsible to
review the menu for good nutrition.
- Parents of Scouts who are buying food for their patrol should review the
Menu Plan with their Scout for
correct quantities and the inclusion of appropriate condiments.
- Food should be bought on Thursday night. Discuss
with your Scout the value of generic versus namebrand products.
Keep all receipts.
- You can spend more than the food fee collected for your son's patrol.
But if you do, it will be your "treat".
- On the Monday after camp, present your receipts to the Troop Treasurer.
You will be reimburse for your cost up to the fee collected for the patrol.
LENDING EQUIPMENT
- Each request should be channeled through the Troop
committee Equipment Coordinator.
- Each request will be considered on an individual basis.
- Equipment must be returned clean and in good condition.
- If damage occurs, it is the responsibility of the borrower to
pay for repair or replacement.
NATIONAL YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING
Criteria for Fee Payment by Troop 82
