Children's Ministry Brochure

During the sacrament of Baptism parents and sponsors promise to nurture and encourage their children's faith life. Yet we all recognize that it takes a village to raise a child. As a congregation we accept the responsibility of a partnership with parents to assist them in nourishing and sustaining their child's faith life.

This page describes the programs offered by Zumbro Lutheran Congregation which are specifically designed to help children from birth through fifth grade grow in faith.

Worship

Children are always welcome at our worship services. We print two types of children's bulletins in order to make worship more accessible for them. Twice each month we also have Good News with Children, a time especially for them during our worship.

Cradle Roll

The parents of our youngest members receive "Beginnings," which provides developmental information from a Christian perspective. This quarterly mailing begins at baptism and continues until age 3. Included in the packets are pamphlets intended to enhance parents' knowledge of the developmental stages of their child and story books that are a child's introduction to the stories of Jesus.

Nursery Care

Our nursery is a warm & cheerful place that offers safety & security for children birth to three years. It is supervised by staff trained in child development. Care is available on Sunday mornings along with selected special worship services. The nursery is also available on Wednesday evenings so that parents may participate in other church activities.

Sunday School

Children three years old through twelfth grade are welcome to experience Jesus' love and care for them at Sunday school. Classes are held from 9:45 - 10:45 on Sunday mornings throughout the school year. We have over 125 volunteers who help spread the good news to children during this time.

Summer Sunday School

Summer Sunday School is a multiage experience for children age three to fifth grade held on the second and fourth Sundays of June, July, and August. The purpose of the program is to enhance the Bible readings for that Sunday through stories, games, and crafts in an atmosphere that is especially designed for children.

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School experiences are offered several times throughout the year. These summer sessions are for preschool and elementary age children, and are designed to provide exciting hands-on learning experiences making the Bible come alive for kids.

K-3 Events in the Children's Place

One Monday evening each month during the school year special activities and group events are planned for children in Kindergarten through Third grade. Sometimes these activities have a holiday theme, other times they are just for fun, like Shorts & Sandals night in February or Pajama & Prayer in January. The purpose of these activities is to foster friendships and have fun in the church setting in a manner different from Sunday school.

Club Zumbro

Once a month we offer Club Zumbro for children in 4th and 5th grade. Games, crafts, and devotions are planned & designed to appeal to this age so that they can have fun while we "sneak " in some Bible learning. The two primary purposes of the program are to allow the children to foster friendships in a church setting and to begin going from concrete Bible learning to faith application in the real world.

Children's Choirs

There are vocal choir opportunities for all children Kindergarten - 8th Grade. Please see the music opportunities page for more information and rehearsal times.

Bell Choirs

The Praises Ring Handbell Choir for 4th and 5th graders teaches children the basics of using handbells and handchimes. They play during worship several times during the school year. This introduction to hand bells prepares the children to move up into the middle school hand bell choir. Please see the music opportunities page for more information and rehearsal times.
