High School Ministry

9th Grade Confirmation

Our ninth graders meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. with either their mentors or our ministry staff. They culminate their three year Confirmation experience with a retreat in April followed by an Affirmation of Baptism Service, which celebrates the commitments they have made to their faith.

Peer Ministry

Many of our confirmed high school youth choose to participate in our Peer Ministry youth leadership program. The fourteen-session training involves these youth in over thirty hours of intensive learning, as they grow in faith and learn how to minister to their peers. Following Peer Ministry 1, we also offer Peer Ministry 2, which engages our youth in specific topic sessions, such as facilitating small groups, enhancing their friend's self worth, etc. Our Peer Ministers are visible leaders in our congregation and in our schools.

Monthly Activities & Retreats

Nearly every month we offer fellowship opportunities for our high school youth. These activities may include partnering with Habitat for Humanity, going on a weekend ski trip, taking a day trip to Valleyfair or Noah's Ark, gathering for a BBQ and bonfire, participating in a 30 Hour Famine, etc.

Bible Study

High school youth are always welcome to join Youth Forum during the Sunday School hour . The forum is facilitated by several of our Peer Ministers along with our Director of Youth Ministry.

Summer Ministry Opportunities

The summer months are often the busiest months of our youth ministry at Zumbro. Each year dozens of high school youth and adults take part in the Appalachia Service Project, a home repair ministry in the Appalachia Mountains. Every three years our high school youth also participate in the ELCA National Youth Gathering. Each summer the Zumbro Youth Softball team also competes in the youth softball league.

Middle School Ministry

7th & 8th Grade Confirmation

Our seventh and eighth graders meet on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. with either their mentor or the ministry staff at church. These students typically meet for a class at church twice a month, and then meet with their mentor groups for either a fellowship event or service project once a month. Our Confirmation program is structured into mentor groups, which include one or two caring adults and five to six youth (all of the same gender). These groups stay together for the entire three year program, forming lifelong relationships.

Monthly Activities

Every month we offer fellowship opportunities for our middle school youth. These activities may include bowling, tubing at Ironwood Springs, going on a weekend ski trip, taking a day trip to Valleyfair or Noah's Ark, taking an afternoon trip to Prairie Walls Climbing Gym, heading out to a Corn Maze in the fall, attending B.L.O.C Parties, participating in service projects around the community, etc.

Sunday School

Youth in grades six through eight join youth of all ages during the Sunday School hour each Sunday morning.

Club Zumbro

Club Zumbro is a program offered for our youth in grades four and five. Club Zumbro meets the first two Wednesdays of the month from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m., and strives to foster friendships in a church setting and to begin going from concrete Bible learning to faith application in the real world.

Summer Ministry Opportunities

Each year middle school youth and adults take part in a service opportunity through YouthWorks!, an ecumenical service organization. While on these mission trips youth have the chance to truly "Be Like Jesus" and serve others. Service projects range from assisting in a nursing home, putting on a Vacation Bible School, serving in a soup kitchen, etc. Each summer the Zumbro Youth Softball team also competes in the youth softball league.
